I love watching foreign language film but never know which ones are good so thought i would set up a topic so everyone can share their favourites. I've posted some of mine below along with IMDB links and trailers so people can make up their own minds and see what they are all about:

Battle Royale

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/ A twisted japanese film with plenty of blood and gore so worth a watch
Motorcycle Diaries
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/7u0U3dbVMHk" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/7u0U3dbVMHk</a>

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318462/ A Spanish film following the road trip that Che Guevara across South America a really beautiful and heartfelt film
City of God
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/iISAiUwY9eM" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/iISAiUwY9eM</a>

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/ Fantastic Spanish film following the lives of 2 boys growing up in the slums of Rio De Janeiro. Loved this film so much kept me completely captivated
Also you can't go wrong with the Hayao Miyazaki films although i recommend you watch them with the original japanese voices as dakota fanning kinda ruins the beauty of it!!! Spirited Away is my favourite but i also love Howls Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and My Neighbour Totoro

I love the really good foreign language films.  2 of my very favourite are:

1 - An Italian movie called La Vita E Bella ("Life is Beautiful") which is about a family and what they had to endure during WWII.

2 - Apocalypto which was made in Mayan-language about the lives of the people then and a man's struggle to save himself & his family.

Those are great foreign language movies to me, and there are many more.

As for me, i enjoy french movies, they really have a heightened sense of comedy. My favourite french flick would have to be "Asterix et Obelix : Mission Cleopatre." They had a major ensemble cast for this one, and they kept the audience laughing the whole time.

Another foreign language movie which really penetrated the european and transatlantic media was Run Lola Run, which we had to watch in German lessons (that was our teachers 'brilliant' way of getting us to learn German - in fact he would normally get a Hollywood film, like MIB or Chicken Run, and one time Lord Of The Rings, and we'd watch it in English with German subtitles. I got a U in my year 9 exams.)

Also, what would you rather have dubbing or subtitles? I hate dubbing it really distracts me from the plot, and subtitles I have when I watch TV anyway. Its brilliant to read whilst watching TV, you're doing something active whilst doing something passive. Agreed?
