With Bill Gates leaving the company as full time manager, can Microsoft withstand tough competition from Google and Apple? Will they have the ruthlessness that Billy G has demonstrated throughout these years. Are they going to continue as being number one or is this the decline of Microsoft?

Sure, Bill has surrounded himself with brilliant people and they will keep the company going.  Plus a company of that size has a lot going for it and will be very hard to topple.

At the moment Bill needs Microsoft, Microsoft doesn't need him. he has worked very hard and he has a cream of programmers, analysts and developers. He can plan long time strategies to operate the company well without his presence.

After making more than 40 billions with all the crap software he's been putting out, i'd say it's about time he left microsoft and let other people steer the company in another direction.

all the crap software is what helped in creating the IT industry as what it is, do you think that with Linux around everyday computing for non-techies would have been possible. i think not. why does everybody blame microsoft. windows is an open system like linux. apple is a closed system thats why its not that widespread. i am not a microsoft fanboy, but they deserve credit for getting a computer to millions of households. linux still lags way behind.

I agree with Magarmuch..Microsoft is the one who has created this IT industry. All those haters of microsoft, believe it or not...You are still using windows Grin

I shall also go with the wind. We shall have to admit that if we don't have windows then I.T literacy rate will be far less. If he contribute in development then it is his right to earn a lot of money.

bill gates donates billions to charity. so if he makes money selling crap software then atleast he has the heart to donate a large portion for the benefit of humans. as for what will happen to microsoft, they will continue to be a behemoth since the company is run by a board not an individual, but i think it will lose its charm. i always liked bill gates as a human being.

microsoft will surely survive. bill gates was a champion businessman, but now that microsoft is so huge and earning money from a gazillion different sources they will continue to be the number 1 software company. even in gaming their xbox360 is well into its 2nd year and i wont be surprised if a new one comes in a couple of years time. in digital music they have zune which they must make more better if they want to effectively compete with the ipod. i heard that they were planning on taking out a zune phone.

Though the the experienced persons have alot to do in establishing and running the business ,but this is also a fact that it is the system that runs not the people . I am sure Microsoft will keep on going great .

So now it need only maintainer and as we all know there are some of Guys whose comes in the rank of bill gates . Of course that they will move on the Microsoft as it is .

I have not observed any decline in the business of microsoft after Bill Gates . Microsoft is giving tough competition to google and is a big threat for google . Microsoft is going nicely .
